As Portfolio Underwriter, you will be responsible for managing and optimising a defined book of business, ensuring underwriting profitability, and aligning with strategic objectives. This role involves analysing risk trends, setting underwriting strategies, and collaborating with distribution and actuarial teams to drive performance across the portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and manage the performance of assigned portfolios, identifying trends, opportunities, and areas for remediation.
  • Develop and implement underwriting strategies, appetite, and guidelines in line with business objectives and market conditions.
  • Evaluate complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions, ensuring alignment with pricing models and reinsurance structures.
  • Work closely with actuaries, claims, distribution, and product teams to ensure cohesive portfolio performance.
  • Ensure adherence to internal underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and audit protocols.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements, including automation and data-driven decision-making tools.
  • Produce regular performance reports and insights to inform senior leadership and support strategic planning.
What We Are Looking For
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience in real estate and/or property underwriting of commercial property risks
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and trends to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Experience in portfolio-level risk management and performance optimisation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with pricing models, loss development patterns, and actuarial collaboration.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACII or equivalent are preferred.
  • Experience in working with MGA and Binders
