Overview
We are seeking an experienced PMO Lead to join a large-scale transformation programme within a global financial services organisation. The successful candidate will oversee and mature PMO operations across a programme exceeding 1,000 people, ensuring effective governance, reporting, and delivery oversight. This role requires strong leadership, hands-on programme management office expertise, and proven experience in complex, regulated environments.
Responsibilities
- PMO Leadership & Governance: Lead the programme PMO function, overseeing planning, risk management, dependency tracking, financial control, and change governance. Establish and embed best practice PMO frameworks, tools, and processes aligned with transformation objectives. Partner with programme leadership, workstream leads, and senior stakeholders to drive consistent delivery discipline.
- Programme Oversight & Reporting: Provide consolidated programme reporting to ExCo/SteerCo, ensuring accurate visibility of progress, risks, issues, and dependencies. Implement robust KPIs, dashboards, and benefits tracking to support decision-making. Manage RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) and ensure mitigation plans are effective.
- Planning & Delivery Support: Lead the development and maintenance of the integrated programme plan across multiple workstreams. Ensure alignment between strategic objectives, delivery milestones, and resource allocation. Drive adherence to delivery methodology (Agile/Hybrid/Waterfall as appropriate).
- Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a PMO team, fostering collaboration and high performance. Build strong relationships across a distributed programme team (1,000+ people).
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a PMO Lead/Head of PMO on large-scale (£100m+), complex transformation programmes within financial services.
- Track record of establishing and leading PMO functions in regulated environments.
- Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, programme reporting, and benefits management.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and navigate complex organisations.
- Hands-on approach with the ability to operate strategically while diving into detail when required.
- Proficiency with project portfolio management tools (e.g., MS Project, Planview, Clarity, JIRA, Power BI).
- Relevant qualifications desirable (e.g., MSP, PRINCE2, PMP, SAFe).
Contract Details
- Contract Type: Day-rate contract (Outside IR35 subject to assessment).
- Location: London (hybrid working model, 2-3 days per week onsite).
- Duration: 9 months (with likely extension).
