Job description

Exciting opportunity available for highly motivated, responsible and caring individuals to join the Walton Centres Therapy Service.

As a Physiotherapy Assistant you will work alongside qualified Physiotherapy staff as part of the multidisciplinary team working with patients who have acute physiotherapy needs.

You will assist physiotherapy staff in planning and delivering high quality treatments, will carry a small delegated, but independent case load and will be involved in the management and distribution of physiotherapy equipment.

As a Physiotherapy assistant you will also play a crucial role in the smooth running of the department and this will include some housekeeping and administration duties.

You will have good communication and interpersonal skills along with previous experience of working within a health care setting and should preferably hold an NVQ level 3 (or equivalent qualification) in a health and social care related topic.

You will receive a comprehensive training programme and regular support, supervision and appraisals.

Responsibilities

• To support qualified Physiotherapy staff in the treatment and handling of patients in a manner that respects peoples privacy, dignity and individuality.
• To undertake physiotherapeutic interventions both independently and under direct supervision of the qualified physiotherapists.
• To provide administration support for senior physiotherapy staff to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the service
• To liaise regularly with physiotherapists regarding treatment progression and on-going care.
• To carry a designated case load and act responsibly in the execution of clinical duties paying due regard to health and safety of self and others.
• To act as part of the multidisciplinary team liaising closely with a range of health and social care professionals.
• To prepare and maintain equipment and the treatment areas including household duties.
• To assist where necessary in the provision of cover across the service in times of annual leave / sickness etc.
• To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all other Health and Social Care Professionals regarding aspects of patient care. Providing and receiving complex information which requires empathy and reassurance. Communicating where there may be barriers to understanding.
• To monitor and maintain equipment stocks and supplies under direction of senior physiotherapists and to advise physiotherapists of repairs or condemned equipment.

Qualifications

Previous experience in a health care setting and proficiency in communication and interpersonal skills. Preferably hold an NVQ level 3 (or equivalent qualification) in a health and social care related topic.
