Job description

PERSONAL ASSISTANT REQUIRED FOR A 23 YEAR OLD MALE HOURS 6 per week at £13.45 per hour LLANWRDA This likeable young man has a learning disability and autism and requires support to attend existing social activities and/or develop new activities.

The post is for six hours per week which can be used in block or over evenings or weekends including Friday afternoon.

He would like to be supported to access his local community once a supportive relationship and trust has been developed.

This young man likes to have fun and particularly likes music and occasional trips to the pub for a meal or socialising.

He would like to develop his life skills including using public transport, gardening and cooking.

The employer prefers quiet surroundings and smaller gatherings.

It is important to the employer that he feels safe and there is routine and structure in place.

Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence

Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community

Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest

Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills

To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction

Encouraging the employer to attend appointments

Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours

To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours

To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.

Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

Relationships: Communication / Nature of Contacts:

Ability to develop supportive and caring relationship with employer.

To undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.

Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.

Job Working Environment: Working in employer’s homes and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.

  • Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.

Has good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.

Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.

Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.

Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.

Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.

A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required.

This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.

  • You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours
  • Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employers need.

Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) A Disclosure Barring Service Check (DBS) / criminal record check will require to be undertaken for this post.
