A disability support organization in Weymouth is seeking a Personal Assistant to provide assistance for a child with various complex needs, promoting independence through daily tasks and activities. The ideal candidate will be patient, reliable, and possess good communication skills, allowing for flexible, supportive interactions during daily routines and leisure activities.
The aim of the job is to aid assistance and support to the employer's child who has a severe learning disability, epilepsy, autism, HNRNPU and associated complex needs. A Personal Assistant is employed to help me live my life with as much independence as possible; getting the right assistance when I need it allows me to do this. Help and encouragement with Independent Living Skills e.g. brushing my teeth, will promote my independence and give me the chance to reach my full potential.
A Personal Assistant will enable me to do this by getting to know me, listening to what I and my family want and following their instructions. It is therefore vital that an employee has patience along with good communication and listening skills. A Personal Assistant should be able to handle the tasks of working with a complex young person. You do not have to be strong to do the job well, but general good health and fitness are important.
The job involves assistance with a variety of tasks. Like most people, my day varies so it is difficult to list every task that is expected of a Personal Assistant. After a period of familiarisation with the duties, carrying out the tasks described below effectively, will often require the post holder to make judgements based on my needs and wishes expressed some time prior. As such, some aspects of the post may be carried out unsupervised.
