About the Role

As a People Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our People function by delivering efficient and effective operational services. You’ll be a key point of contact for our colleagues, ensuring their journey with DC Thomson is smooth, supportive, and inspiring.

Working closely with the Head of People Operations and the wider team, you’ll help build and maintain simple, clear processes, policies, and systems that meet the needs of our people. This role is key in supporting digital transformation and leveraging automation tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy and employee experience.

  • Reports to: Head of People Operations
  • Location: Dundee
  • Ways of Working: Hybrid (office attendance required approximately 2 days per week at the DC Thomson Meadowside Office for collaboration, team gatherings, and company events)
  • Contract Type: Full‑time, Permanent
Key Responsibilities
  • Employee Onboarding
    • Prepare contracts and complete Right to Work checks
    • Act as the first point of contact for new starters
  • HR Administration
    • Maintain accurate employee records in line with data protection laws
    • Respond to HR queries via our People Team mailbox
  • Compliance and Reporting
    • Support HR audits and ensure legal compliance
    • Generate weekly HR reports and data analysis
  • Digital Transformation and Automation
    • Collaborate with the People team to identify and implement process improvements.
    • Support the rollout and adoption of digital tools (e.g. HRIS, self‑service portals).
    • Help design and maintain automated workflows for approvals, document handling, and reporting.
  • Absence Management
    • Monitor and report on employee absences
    • Track self‑certification form completion
Additional Duties
  • Process invoices and purchase orders using Business Central
  • Manage our Driver Management system
  • Support payroll with ad hoc admin tasks
  • Drive continuous improvement in People processes and systems
What You’ll Bring
  • Proven experience in HR or administrative roles
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with HR systems is a plus
  • Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
  • CIPD qualification (Level 5 or postgraduate) is desirable
  • Core skills: Human Resources Management, Data Management, Change Management, Information Security and Service Support
