Job description
Overview

We are welcoming applications for the role of Payroll Technician with Dorset Police based at the following location(s): Police Headquarters, Exeter; Police Headquarters, Winfrith; Dorset. Hours per week: 37 hours. We welcome applications from individuals wishing to work on a part-time basis and are willing to consider flexible working patterns subject to business need. Allowances: This role attracts no allowances.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret data from different providers and perform calculations, coding and input of payroll information, including permanent and temporary deductions, sickness, maternity, student loans, tax code changes, and payment of arrears. Update payroll system accordingly.
  • Deal with all payroll queries from staff including those relating to tax, National Insurance and entry level pension queries.
  • Deal with external requests for payroll information such as mortgage requests and CSA queries.
  • Deal with internal requests to advise on potential overpayment given a late change of circumstances and to provide statements of potential earnings to be used in respect of legal cases.
  • Administer systems for time recording to ensure that payments outside of stated timescales are paid or recovered as required.
Salary and terms

Salary: Scale D – Starts at £26,106, rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £28,653 per annum. This salary is based on 37 hours per week; if part-time, salary will be prorated. Exceptions to starting salary may apply if you are an existing Devon & Cornwall or Dorset Police Staff employee substantively posted to a role at the same scale.

Contract and working arrangement

Type of employment: Fixed Term. Type of working arrangement: Static-Worker (limited remote working due to location of equipment). Temporary role duration: 30/11/2026. If you are not currently a police staff employee and are successful for this post, you will be offered a Fixed Term contract.
