We are looking for a detail-oriented and experiencedPayments Operations & Risk Control Manager to join our UK team. This role will be responsible for overseeing and optimising our cross-border payments processes, managing operational risks, and supporting business expansion across the UK and Europe. It requires deep domain knowledge in payment operations, fraud risk management, and chargeback handling within a cross-border or eCommerce environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, optimisation, and implementation of end-to-end payment operation processes to ensure efficiency, compliance, and risk control.

  • Handle chargeback (dispute) cases in line with international card schemes (e.g. Visa, Mastercard), collaborating with banks, PSPs, and merchants to collect evidence and resolve disputes.

  • Investigate failed payments (technical issues, account restrictions, risk interceptions, etc.), coordinating with internal teams to improve payment success rates.

  • Monitor transactional behaviour to identify suspicious or fraudulent activity, and implement anti-fraud strategies in collaboration with risk and compliance teams.

  • Analyse operational data related to chargebacks, fraud, and payment failures; prepare regular reports and insights to support decision-making.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Tech, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Customer Service teams to ensure timely resolution of payment issues.

  • Maintain effective communication with external partners, including payment processors, banks, and regulatory bodies.

  • Ensure all operational processes comply with relevant regulations and standards (e.g. PSD2, AML/KYC, FCA).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Finance, Business, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in payments operations, chargeback management, or risk control, preferably in a cross-border payments or eCommerce setting.

  • Deep understanding of payment processing, payment gateways, and international card scheme rules.

  • Familiar with UK and EU payment regulations and compliance frameworks (e.g. SEPA, PSD2, FCA, AML).

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, proficient in Excel and SQL.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Detail-driven with a proactive mindset and the ability to work under pressure.

  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is a strong plus to facilitate communication with global internal teams and partners.
