We wish to recruit a part time PracticeNurse to join Amersham Vale Practice in Deptford, Lewisham.

We are a 16,000 patient training practice based in the Waldron Health Centre, a modern, spacious facility in the heart of Deptford, North Lewisham. Deptford is a dynamic, diverse, culturally rich and rapidly changing neighbourhood with pockets of deprivation alongside new developments. We are situated directly opposite New Cross station and within walking distance of Deptford DLR, Deptford station and New Cross Gate station.

Our practice values kindness, approachability, friendliness and compassion, alongside high standards of clinical care. We are a training practice and have a diverse clinical team including Advanced Nurse Practitioners and a Clinical Pharmacist. We very much work as a team and encourage and value everyones contributions, no matter what their level of experience.

Main duties of the job

Job summary and scope

The practice nurse is responsible for providing nursing services to the practice population, within the boundaries of the role. They will support patients to be healthy, monitor patients with long-term conditions, and deliver health prevention, promotion and screening activities.

This will include but is not limited to assessing patients; planning and implementing treatment protocols; and reviewing and tracking progress.

  • Implement and evaluate treatment plans for patients with long-term conditions
  • Long-term disease management, dependant on level of experience and training - Including but not limited to
  • Take and test pathology samples from patients for analysis (blood, sputum, urine, etc)
  • Care for patients with uncomplicated wounds, including (but not limited to):
  • Removal of sutures
  • Wound assessment
  • Wound cleaning and dressing
  • Management of burns and scalds
  • Ulcer care, (pressure dressings training not needed)
  • Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes
  • Routine immunisations, (as follows, but not limited to)
  • Provide routine ear care such as irrigation
  • Where qualified, prescribe medication within your areas of competence
  • Perform other clinical duties as required, within the scope of the practice nurses competencies and training
