Paediatric Dietitian

Hours 37.5 hrs per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible /part time working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietitian to join our friendly, proactive and supportive paediatric dietetic team, based at Milton Keynes University Hospital. The post will be working with our B7 Paediatric Home Enteral Feeding Dietitian and B7 Learning Disabilities Dietitian to support patients/clients who are receiving enteral feeds at home and will be an excellent opportunity to develop knowledge and skills.

You should be enthusiastic, with great communication and time management skills and an ability to be flexible and have a strong commitment to teamwork.

The successful candidate will work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary teams in community settings and support to training, joint visits etc. In addition, they will work with the Prescribing Support Dietitian to review appropriate provision of feeds and ancillaries.

The paediatric dietetic team consists of 6 dietitians and a dietetic assistant practitioner providing a service to a number of specialist areas including allergy, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, neonatal unit, and home enteral feeding.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining our wider forward-thinking department of over 30 registered dietitians, dietetic support workers and admin staff, covering acute, community, paediatric and learning disability services. We have excellent admin support and take students from University of Surrey and Oxford Brookes University.

  • To provide, as part of the paediatric team, dietetic services for children and young people in the community on home enteral feeds
  • To work closely with adult learning disabilities dietitian to provide dietetic services for adults with learning disabilities on home enteral feeds
  • The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner and act as a source of expertise in the area of home enteral feeding.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

To develop and maintain a high standard of knowledge and practical experience in general dietetics, and to provide specialist expertise in the areas of home enteral feeding (paediatrics and adults with learning disabilities).

To manage a highly diverse caseload.

To maintain a culture of confidentiality.

To identify problems where changes to practices and systems or additional resources are required to support caseload and to discuss these with line manager.

Educational

To be proactive in identifying and addressing the educational needs of patients and carers, including medical, nursing staff and other health care professionals.

To ascertain the requirements for student training particularly as related to paediatrics / learning disabilities and to devise, deliver and supervise part of the student training programme.

Organisational

To ensure that your own practice meet the required professional standards of dietetic practice.

To be responsible for your own caseload with dietetic support to meet service and patient priorities, readjusting plans as situations change/arise.

Committee Membership

The post holder will be required to represent the Dietetic Department at internal or external meetings as appropriate including attendance at: Departmental Quality meetings, Paediatric Team meetings

Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge
  • Degree or equivalent in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Registration as a dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council HCPC (UK)
  • Documentary evidence of a range of continuous professional development (CPD) equivalent to a post graduate level experience
  • Sound therapeutic and clinical knowledge
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of national guidelines relevant to clinical area
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of evidenced based clinical practice for a range of conditions.
  • Attendance to British Dietetic Association (BDA) paediatric specialist module/s (MSc or CPD level)
  • Membership of the British Dietetic Association
Experience
  • Post -registration experience in a range of dietetic clinical areas
  • Ability to autonomously manage a caseload of complex patients.
  • Experience of working with clients with learning disabilities
  • Experience of community home enteral feeding
  • Supervision and training of students and junior members of staff
