Job description

Newcastle City Council (City Transport) is seeking an experienced, time‑served Heavy Goods Vehicle technician for a permanent position.

Overview

City Transport maintains a diverse range of heavy and light vehicles, plant, horticultural equipment, and operates two MOT stations. The role involves effective, efficient maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of the council’s plant, horticultural equipment, and Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) fleet, ensuring compliance with DVSA & Operators Licence standards and preparing LGVs for MOT.

Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of heavy and light vehicles, plant, and horticultural equipment.
  • Ensure LGVs meet DVSA & Operators Licence standards and are prepared for MOT.
  • Adhere to safety, quality, and deadline requirements at all times.
  • Operate within the Heavy workshop at Newington Rd.
Qualifications
  • Recognised apprenticeship in motor vehicle engineering to NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
  • Category B driving licence essential.
  • Category C LGV licence or valid MOT tester qualification advantageous.
