Mental Health Support Assistant - Classroom Based (Primary & Secondary)
Tempest Education - Full Time 8:30am-3:40pm

About the Role

You will work classroom‑based, supporting students with a range of mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, trauma‑related behaviours, ADHD and Autism. Class sizes are small (8-10 pupils) with three adults in each room to ensure every student receives the right support.

The role involves:

  • Providing 1:1 and group support to students with social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Using a trauma‑informed, nurturing approach to help pupils regulate emotions and engage with learning
  • Supporting behaviour management through calm, consistent strategies
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people who may present with challenging behaviours
  • Working closely with the class teacher and wider SEMH team to deliver meaningful support
  • Encouraging independence, life skills and confidence within the classroom
Who We're Looking For

Experience working with challenging behaviours and a solid understanding of mental health conditions is essential. While experience in schools is an advantage, we also welcome applicants from backgrounds including:

  • Special Needs / SEN Classroom Support

A calm, empathetic manner and the ability to remain resilient in high‑pressure situations are key to success in this role.

Requirements
  • Full‑time availability: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:40pm
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs or behavioural challenges
  • A trauma‑informed, person‑centred approach
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
