Overview

Neway International are seeking a Mental Health Social Worker (Adults) to join our client Somerset Council.

Location: Church Street, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 5AT

Hours: 37 per week

Start Date: 22 December 2025

Duration: ongoing long term

Pay Rates: PAYE £28.19 per hour / Limited/Umbrella £38.56 per hour

Work Pattern: Hybrid – minimum of 2 days in office/Somerset

The Role

As a Mental Health Social Worker, you will provide professional interventions to adults experiencing mental health difficulties. This role covers a secondment until August 2026 and requires you to manage complex caseloads, safeguard vulnerable individuals, and deliver statutory assessments. You will work collaboratively with health professionals, housing services, voluntary organisations, and other agencies to ensure integrated care and positive outcomes for service users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake Care Act assessments, support planning, and reviews for individuals with mental health needs.
  • Apply the principles of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act in practice.
  • Manage complex caseloads, prioritising safeguarding and risk management.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate case records, ensuring compliance with data protection and confidentiality standards.
  • Respond promptly to urgent situations and adapt to changing priorities.
Candidate Requirements
  • Essential:
  • Qualified Social Worker with current registration (Social Work England).
  • Experience in mental health social work, including statutory assessments and safeguarding.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation: Care Act, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
