Overview

Job Title: Melting Operative

Location: Rotherham

Salary: £31,800 per annum (Fully Trained)

Shift Hours: Monday - Thursday 8am - 4:40pm, Friday 8am - 3:30pm (Potential shift change to a 2-shift system)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Melting Operative to join our foundry team. In this role, you will work in both air and vacuum melt foundries, assisting with melting operations, setting up moulds, and ensuring quality control throughout the melt process. You will work closely with the Foundry Manager and other key team members to meet production schedules and maintain high standards of accuracy and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and assist with foundry melting in either vacuum or atmospheric conditions.
  • Assist the Foundry Manager with mould setups for upcoming melt campaigns in both air and vacuum melt foundries.
  • Calculate charge and trim additions in collaboration with the Foundry Manager for air melting processes.
  • Prepare and set up ladles for melt campaigns in the air melt foundry.
  • Perform pre-melt checks and assist in the melting process.
  • Disassemble castings from previous melt campaigns in both air and vacuum melting environments.
  • Post-cast removal and delivery of castings to the Finishing department, ensuring all paperwork (route cards) is completed.
  • Operate 3 Induction Skull Melting (ISM) furnaces and 1 Vacuum Arc Re-melting (VAR) furnace during vacuum melting.
  • Notify the Chief Operating Officer of any changes in the melt plan.
  • Raise and investigate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as necessary and ensure close-out.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards in the foundry.
  • Update Work in Progress (WIP) records as required.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks.
Qualifications
  • Foundry melting experience in either vacuum or atmospheric melting is required.
  • Familiarity with Induction Skull Melting (ISM) and Vacuum Arc Re-melting (VAR) processes is advantageous.
  • Ability to calculate charge and trim additions for air melting operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Forklift truck and overhead crane operation experience is preferred.
  • Experience with production scheduling, NCR processes, and WIP updates is beneficial.
  • Flexibility to adapt to potential changes in shift patterns.

  • Monday - Thursday: 8am - 4:40pm
  • Friday: 8am - 3:30pm
