Medical Laboratory Assistant – Infection Sciences department. Location: Hemel Hempstead Hospital, HP2 4AD. Contract: Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hours per week). Salary: Up to £26,928 per annum DOE.

A vacancy has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) in the Microbiology Department at Watford & Hemel Hempstead Hospitals following the implementation of a new Pathology and Phlebotomy services programme. Services commenced 1 March 2025. The MLA will perform routine preparation and tests, including basic analytical processes, under supervision of a qualified BMS staff. The MLA will bring unusual test requests or results to the attention of the appropriate staff and will enter patient requests into the pathology computer system (WinPath and Helix). The MLA will carry out clerical and technical tasks in accordance with sample handling procedures and assist with handling and distribution of incoming/outgoing goods, equipment, specimens and reagents, as well as managing the laboratory users Helpdesk. The laboratory operates on a 24/7 basis, so the successful candidate will participate in shifts that cover this timeframe, including weekends and late shifts.
