Job description

Job Description

Are you a Mechanical Engineer, with a background in analysis and design of piping systems and pressure equipment, who thrives on difficult problems? Are you drawn to complex design projects and excited by the opportunity to rapidly move on to leadership positions, heading up projects and guiding junior engineers?

If so, you might enjoy solving the energy industry’s most important pressure equipment design conundrums across a variety of clients. You could be designing systems to provide cooling for safety-critical plant, emergency shutdown capability for nuclear reactors, qualifying pipework for high temperatures and pressures in fusion reactors, supporting UK Submarine and SMR programmes, or enabling renewable energy projects within a growing carbon net zero portfolio. You’re likely to juggle several projects simultaneously, so adaptability is essential. The constant is the complex nature of these jobs and the chance to provide innovative solutions for various clients.

In any energy-related project, you'll be deploying collaborative solutions to ensure safe and reliable plant operation, making a significant contribution to future energy safety.

If you are a self-starter capable of delivering multiple projects, working closely with clients and internal teams to understand requirements, set up projects, and deliver right-first-time solutions, then we encourage you to apply.

Role requirements:

You will work within small to medium-sized multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative and supportive environment, working at least half of your time in an office or site setting. You may also be based at client sites or facilities. You should bring commercial awareness to effectively deliver tasks across multiple workstreams within time, quality, and budget constraints.

Essential criteria:

  • Degree qualified mechanical engineer (or relevant qualification)
  • Experience in piping and pressure vessel design and stress analysis
  • Experience in writing detailed technical reports (e.g., design substantiations, safety cases)
  • Ability to engage with clients, understand their issues, and work at their sites

Preferred experience (but not mandatory):

  • Experience in safety-critical, heavily regulated environments like nuclear power
  • Chartered status or near application
  • Experience with design codes such as ASME BPVC Section III, RCC-M, BS EN 13480, BS EN 13445
  • Experience in automation tools, preferably Python
  • Experience in requirements capture, task specification, and bid writing
  • Site support and installation supervision
  • PESR and PSSR compliance
