Job summary

A leading mechanical and electrical contractor near Wakefield is looking for a Mechanical Estimator. This permanent role involves managing cost estimates and commercial submissions for projects in a small team. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years’ experience in a similar M&E role, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to handle pressures and deadlines effectively. This position offers an opportunity to work with key retail clients on exciting projects.

My client is a mechanical & electrical contractor who specialise in retail fit out and construction projects across the UK. They are based near Wakefield and have an excellent reputation and history of producing quality, fast track projects across the sector for some leading retail clients.

They are now recruiting a Mechanical Estimator or an M&E Estimator on a permanent basis. The successful applicant will work in a small team of estimators and report to the Commercial Director. Working in the commercial team the Mechanical Estimator will help manage a continual pipeline of opportunities and will be responsible for ensuring accurate cost estimates and robust commercial submissions are in place for each bid, working across the whole business. Taking responsibility for the commercial submission, you will oversee the bid from tender stage through to contract award. This is a role that requires the ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines. It will require strong management and technical skills.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all tenders / estimates and cost proposals are compliant to processes, mitigating and advising of risk, delivering opportunities, and buying gains.
  • Communicating with current and prospective customers, scoping requirements, taking client briefs using previous experience to provide a consultative approach
  • Negotiating Pricing for required Materials & labour
  • Preparing detailed tender documents inline with client requirement
  • Develop new and build existing relationships with key sub-contractors.
  • Develop key relationships with customers, client project surveyors and client’s advisors.
  • Ensuring proposals are professionally submitted in line with tender requirements.
Experience
  • A minimum of 2 years spent in a similar position for a similar M&E company within the industry.
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills
