A leading recycling firm in Runcorn is seeking a Mechanical Technician to install and maintain electrical systems. The position offers an hourly rate of £18.87 plus shift allowance and a bonus for attendance. Ideal candidates will have NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering and relevant experience in electrical roles.

Job description
Overview

My very busy well-established recycling clients are now looking to add to the team a Mechanical Technician for the facility in Runcorn. As a subsidiary of a large group focused on growing the circular economy and they see innovation within the company as pivotal to the global sustainability strategy, taking the development of the people and site capabilities to the next level will be the focus in 2025/2026.

Working pattern: Monday – Friday. Salary will be an hourly rate - 162 hours per month. £18.87 plus £1.89 shift allowance (£20.76 when working shifts). After probation (3 months) first 3 months basic then once passed will do shifts so will get the £1.89 on top. You are also entitled to a bonus each month for attendance and hitting production target: £60 for attendance and £50 for hitting production target.

Responsibilities
  • Installation & Maintenance: Install, calibrate, and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems, including motors, sensors, actuators, PLCs, and control panels»
  • Carry out mechanical tasks as part of a multifunctional team
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical and instrumentation faults on a variety of systems
  • Maximise OEE: Carry out TPM tasks to ensure maximum OEE is achieved
  • Testing & Calibration: Perform routine testing, calibration, and validation of instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Documentation: Accurately maintain records of all electrical and instrumentation work, including maintenance logs, calibration reports, work orders and spare part stores management
  • Compliance: Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, including the Electricity at Work Regulations, IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671), and company policies
  • Health & Safety: Follow strict health & safety guidelines, conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with safe work practices
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance system reliability and efficiency
  • Liaison: Work closely with engineers, production teams, and external contractors to ensure timely resolution of issues
  • Note: This role will work a shift pattern of 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm. The pattern will change on a weekly basis

Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent
  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671) (desirable)
  • Instrumentation certification (desirable)
  • COMPEX certification (desirable)
Experience
  • Demonstratable experience in an electrical and instrumentation role, across multiple sectors including manufacturing, industrial, energy, or related industries
  • Must be a time served/qualified electrician with experience
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and automation is advantageous
  • Must have mechanical ability, with electrical experience desirable
  • Experience working in hazardous environments (ATEX) (desirable)
  • Familiarity with DCS (Distributed Control Systems) (desirable)
