A client in the Aerospace & Defence sector is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for designing and supporting mechanical systems. The role requires proficiency in 3D CAD software and offers permanent employment options starting from GBP50k p/a. You will conduct analyses on non-conformance issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail–oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a client in the Aerospace & Defence sector. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, developing, and supporting mechanical systems and components that meet the highest industry standards. You will be involved in all aspects of the design lifecycle, from conceptual design through to manufacturing and will provide technical expertise in addressing non–conformance issues and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver detailed design activities that meet manufacturing requirements.

  • Produce and interpret high quality 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings (including GD&T).

  • Conduct root cause and failure mode analyses on non–conformance issues and ensure all effective solutions are implemented, working alongside cross functional teams to ensure efficiency.

  • Document investigations, reports, and resolutions accurately.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design and manufacturing processes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solid Edge preferable) for interpretation, modelling and drawing.

  • Proven experience designing mechanical components, parts, assemblies, and subassemblies, in one of the following:

    • Heavy engineering industry

    • Power transmission systems

    • Gears and gearboxes

  • Knowledge of subsystems that impact mechanical design/layout.

  • Familiarity with structural design practices and methodologies, including redesigns.

  • Strong understanding of quality management systems and standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).

  • Experience with root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.

  • Excellent problem–solving, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Detail–oriented, with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering or a related field.

  • Previous experience in a similar role within the Aerospace & Defence industry.

  • Experience of using Solid Edge or Solidworks

  • Due to security requirements, applications are open to sole UK nationals only.
  • Active SC is essential
  • This contract is offered on an outside IR35 basis. Permanent employment is also possible from GBP50k p/a.
