Materials Engineer at Capgemini Engineering

About the job you're considering

Capgemini Engineering is looking for a dynamic, team-focused High Performance Materials Engineer with a focus on composite materials to join the existing team. Your role will be to support operations of both industry-leading and emerging companies in the aerospace sector.

Hybrid working: The work location will vary according to your role, needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of company offices, client sites, and your home, noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.

If successful, you will undergo pre-employment checks including identity, nationality or immigration status, employment history for the past 3 years, and a criminal record check.

Your Role

Working on-site or remotely with customers, you will play a key role in delivering projects. You will utilize engineering principles to support topics with an emphasis on carbon fibre primary structures, aerospace metallic materials, and manufacturing principles.

Key responsibilities include:
  1. Developing materials design guidance, mainly on composite materials/reinforced plastics.
  2. Supporting material selection and certification activities, including defining, planning, and executing test campaigns.
  3. Creating and maintaining material compatibility and surface protection manuals.
  4. Developing material specifications to meet performance, quality, and compliance standards.
  5. Managing documentation for material qualification and generating manufacturing process instructions.
Your skills and experience

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related fields, with specialization in composites.

Experience:

  • Experience in aerospace engineering focusing on composite materials is desirable.
  • Experience in managing documentation for material qualification and certification.
  • Experience in developing manufacturing and material specifications.
  • Proficiency in technical areas related to materials science, with the ability to demonstrate skills across other areas.

Relevant Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of materials science, including composite materials and qualification processes.
  • Excellent project management and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs.
