The role

As a Marine Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our Submarine Operations Centre, providing technical expertise that keeps the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet mission-ready. This is a varied and dynamic role where you’ll combine engineering knowledge with cutting‑edge digital tools to improve maintenance management and design projects that ensure operational success. Every day brings new challenges – mechanical, electrical or weapons engineering—making this an exciting opportunity to grow your skills and make a real impact.

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day provision of engineering support to Royal Navy submarine ships.

  • Provide engineering support to Royal Navy submarine ships staff.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues within defined timescales.
  • Recommend solutions for system operations, defect history and repair options.
  • Interpret technical documentation and advise on material specifications.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure maintenance projects meet operational needs.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Marine Engineer
  • Knowledge of submarine in‑service support arrangements.
  • Experience resolving complex electrical and mechanical investigations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to champion high performance and inspire others.
  • Proactive and able to work autonomously to meet deadlines.
Qualifications for the Marine Engineer
  • NVQ Level 3 or above in electrical or mechanical engineering.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
