Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop manufacturing tooling and processes.

  • Apply continuous improvement tools to enhance production.

Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Luton
Salary: £35,000 – £37,000

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer to join a fast-growing engineering business that is doubling in size. This role is ideally suited to an engineering graduate with 1–2 years of industry experience who is looking to develop their career in a hands‑on, production-focused environment.

You will play a key role in supporting manufacturing operations, improving production processes, and contributing to the successful industrialisation of new and existing products. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll help drive a right-first-time culture in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities for the appointed Manufacturing Engineer:
  • Design and develop manufacturing tooling and processes to support the production of metallic systems

  • Create, maintain, and improve manufacturing instructions and standard operating procedures

  • Support the industrialisation of new products, using structured project management approaches

  • Provide engineering support to production, optimising tooling and processes for existing products

  • Work closely with suppliers to source and manage replacement tooling

  • Use root cause and corrective action (RCCA) techniques to resolve production issues

  • Lead continuous improvement projects from concept through to implementation

  • Uphold engineering and production standards, including 5S principles

  • Evaluate and improve process efficiency through time and motion studies

  • Use cost data to assess cost-effective manufacturing methods and design decisions

  • Apply a range of continuous improvement tools to enhance production performance

Skills & Experience for the appointed Manufacturing Engineer:
  • Ability to create manufacturing sequences for multi-level assemblies

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a changing environment

  • Experience using MRP systems

  • A proactive, self-starting mindset with the ability to rapidly iterate and improve processes

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to drive tasks to completion

  • Ability to interpret cost data to support capital investment decisions

  • Experience with welding processes and non-destructive testing is desirable

  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g. MS Project) is desirable

  • Experience conducting make vs buy assessments using cost data is desirable

Education
  • Degree in an engineering or science discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience
