Overview
This is a client-side opportunity within the Construction Projects team for a significant Data Centre owner/operator. With multiple sites and more coming on stream, this is a busy role in which you will be Project Managing various building services schemes across the portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Project management and oversight of build and retrofitting activities related to modifying existing infrastructure to install new or replace end-of-life equipment. Ownership of project scope, timeline and budget.
- Provide project management for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of the data centres. Construction/project package drawing review.
- Creation of project scope, requests for proposals and capital requests. Total project quality including commissioning plan and oversight of execution. Recording and reporting key metrics to team members and management.
- Operational support including review of procedures, best practices and maintenance initiatives.
- Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis for equipment or electrical failures. Work with contractors and vendors to deliver efficient and high-quality project turnovers.
- Lead within the group as well as with internal and external teams that support the data centre. Identify gaps and opportunities to expedite programs and work packages.
- Manage risk and report blockers, next steps and recommendations; track weekly progress. Trace all activity back to impact on cost and time and propose improvements.
- Be comfortable on site and with drawings/plans (ACC SharePoint experience). Understand temporary works and develop a plan to implement them.
- Role requires experience across BMS, electrical, mechanical (cooling) disciplines; both technical services experience and data centre live-site experience are important. Ability to identify areas for improvement and act on data from other teams and organisations.
Qualifications
- MEP background, comfortable managing contractors and consultants.
- Strong data centre, live DC environment experience and ability to maintain SLA availability (Tier 3 requirements).
- Strong administrative skills with understanding of audit trails and process development; methodical decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills; able to work with client-side internal operations teams and get the best from them.
- Ability to report issues, next steps and recommendations, and to work under pressure while seeking opportunities to improve.
- Experience with drawings MEP & civils/architectural; capacity to identify gaps and expedite programs.
- UK-based; able to conduct site visits as appropriate; not a general IT PM role. This is outside IR35.
- On-site data centre live-site experience and a practical understanding of temporary works.
- Client representation with a focus on interests of the client and safety.
