Job summary
We are seeking to grow our team of Consultant Paediatric Radiologists at Nottingham University Hospitals. This post have been created to match the increasing local and regional demand for Paediatric imaging and contribute to our recently introduced 24 hour service to support our Children's Hospital and Major Trauma centre.
The successful applicant will share responsibility with seven other colleagues for the provision of all aspects of paediatric imaging in our Trust and the Trusts within the network.
The team of paediatric radiologists are based at Queen's Medical Centre and provide comprehensive children's imaging service for Nottingham Children's Hospital. Specialist Paediatric Radiology support is also provided to United Lincolnshire Hospital, Sherwood Forest Hospital and Peterborough District Hospital. The team provide second opinions in cases of suspected physical abuse to a wide range of hospitals from across the UK.
Paediatric Radiology
The Newly refurbished Paediatric Radiology Department is located at Queens Medical Centre. Within the Paediatric Department there are two X-ray Rooms, two Ultrasound rooms and a Fluoroscopy suite. Paediatric CT and MRI scans and Interventional Radiology procedures are undertaken within the wider imaging department located nearby.
The Paediatric Radiology Team consists of 7 Consultant Paediatric Radiologists and a team of Paediatric Sonographers (3 WTE), Specialist Paediatric Radiographers (3 WTE), Rotational Paediatric Plain Film Radiographers (2 WTE), led by a Lead Paediatric Radiographer. The team are supported by two Paediatric Imaging Assistants, who support with reception duties, ultrasound and fluoroscopy cases.
Nottingham Children's Hospital
Nottingham offers a comprehensive range of specialist paediatric services. The Nottingham Children's Hospital provides a tertiary paediatric and neonatal services to the adjacent areas of Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire, surgical services for Stoke-on-Trent in the Midlands and neurosurgical services for Leicestershire. Additionally the hospital provides supra-regional services for paediatric spinal surgery, rheumatology, nephro-urology and cystic fibrosis.
The regional Paediatric Trauma Centre is located on the Queens Medical Centre site.

Candidates must hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or an equivalent qualification and must either be on the Specialist Register, or in possession of a CCT at the time of taking up the appointment. However the department is delighted to entertain expressions of interest from individuals who are within 6 months of attaining CCT or have reasonable prospects of getting a CESR within 1 year.
The post will be primarily located at the Queens Medical Centre campus although the successful applicant will be required to provide sessions at the sites we provide a Paediatric Radiology service. The timetable will be flexible to enable cross cover of essential services on a rota.
A successful applicant would be required to be part of a dedicated Paediatric on call rota, which has a frequency of 1:8.
