Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a (10 PA) 12 months fixed term locum consultant in Medical Microbiology and Virology to join the microbiology team at West Hertfordshire teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Responsibilities

• Provide a comprehensive, efficient and cost-effective clinical microbiology and infection service for all users of the laboratory, together with Consultant colleagues.
• Contribute to an infection control service as part of the laboratory team.
• Work with three Consultant Microbiologists in a major department within one of the larger Trusts in the East of England.
• Support the development of molecular diagnostics and maintain robust in-house testing capacity for SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses.
• As part of the HWE ICB reconfiguration of Pathology to form a Network, Laboratory services will be managed by HSL from 1 March 2025.
• Provide a 24 hour telephone on-call clinical and infection control advisory service on a 1:4 rota with prospective cover.
• Take a leadership role within the Trust on infection management, including advice on appropriate investigations and management for individual patients.
• Lead and motivate a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
