Job description

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon based on the Newham and Whipps cross sites for Barts Health. We are looking for a Consultant Urological Surgeon to help with the overall workload of the Urology department. This post is to support the diagnostic and core urology work in the department.

Key duties will be supervising and running operating lists, acute and specialist clinics, diagnostics, on call cover, ward rounds, and care for patients on wards in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward and specialist nursing teams. The unit is very active in research, education and audit and the post holder will be expected to fully participate in all the above activities.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council with a license to practise.

Main duties of the job

We are advertising for a Consultant Urological Surgeon, to support the urology service provision on the Newham University Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital sites within Barts Health. This post is to support the Diagnostic and Core Urology work in the specialty.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MB BS, or equivalent FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
  • CCST (or within 6 months of date of interview)
Knowledge
  • Widespread broad based knowledge of all aspects of Urological surgery
  • Widespread broad based knowledge of all aspects of Urological surgery
Training
  • Higher Specialist Training in Urological surgery.
  • Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates
  • Experience in Emergency Urology
  • Experience in Endourology, lithotripsy & TRUS Biopsy
  • Experience of Novel prostatic techniques
  • Experience in transperineal prostate biopsy
Management/ Audit Experience
  • Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy.
  • Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion.
  • Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare
  • Experience of audit management
Research
  • Ability to demonstrate personal experience of clinical research and describe and discuss findings and impact.
  • Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to surgery
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems
  • Demonstrate number of first name publications in indexed journals, over a variety of subjects relevant to this post.
  • PhD/ MD Thesis
