Overview

Lifeguard Supervisor

An opportunity to join an experienced, versatile team, delivering a first-class Lifeguard service to our world class Armed Forces personnel and associated civilian staff and families.

Position Overview

Based in Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth the post holder will lead a small team and deliver confident and competent lifeguarding and ensure safe and compliant use of the Swimming Pool in the Sports and Recreation Centre.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the focal point for pool usage, maintaining recorded and reporting activity. This includes checking the validity on non-Service organisations and identifying a qualified lifesaver.
  • Supervise and be part of the lifeguard team.
  • Produce lifeguarding shift patterns.
  • Comply with the Normal Pool Operating Procedures, ensuring all lifeguards are trained and suitably fit, and safeguarding the safety and good conduct of all swimming pool, sauna and changing room users.
  • Lead in emergency situations and undertake duties in accordance with the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Ensure equipment is efficiently utilised and the pool area, including changing rooms are maintained to a high hygienic standard.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of fitness and competency to be able to recover an adult from the pool.
  • Take readings and water samples from the pool daily, keeping appropriate records to ensure the swimming pool meets recommended and legislated quality measures. Undertake any additional tasks as determined by the Line Manager, including support for extraneous events.

  • The successful candidate will be physically fit, well-organised, confident with credible communication skills readily able and willing to contribute at all levels.
  • In addition, the individual will be versatile, intuitive, and professional with good judgement and absolute integrity.
  • Pro-active and when required and responsive to changing needs of the business and demands of the customer, while remaining calm under pressure and self-motivated, the incumbent will be reliable and well presented, giving a positive image of MITIE company values.
  • RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (in date) (Essential)
  • RLSS Trainer Assessor
  • Experience in similar role (desirable)
  • Record of in-house Lifeguard Training
  • Trained in First Aid (highly desirable)
  • IOSH Working Safely Certificate (desirable)
  • Good organisational and motivational skills and a high degree of integrity.
  • Proven track record of delivering a quality service with customer facing experience.
  • Persuasive and credible verbal and written communicator with the ability to develop close working relationships.
  • IT literate.
  • Proactive approach and the ability to embrace change.
  • Ability to manage short notice changes to requirements and deadline.
  • Good standard of education.
Additional Information
  • MOD security clearance and DBS Standard required. To meet national security vetting requirements, you will normally need to have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years to gain a Counter Terrorist Check, 5 years for Security Clearance and 10 years for Developed Vetting prior to the date of application.
  • All Developed Vetted posts are required to be UK Nationals.
  • Leave to be exclusively taken in Britannia Royal Naval College leave periods.
  • Proof of right to work in UK essential.
  • Required to wear approved company work wear.
