Job Overview

Weatherford has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team, supporting our North Sea operations across the UK, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands.

This role will report to Senior Legal Counsel for the region and provide broad-based legal support, serving as a trusted advisor to commercial, operational, and functional stakeholders. The Legal Counsel will support contractual and commercial matters, litigation and dispute management, employment law issues, corporate secretarial duties, facilities and real estate projects and broader governance responsibilities across the region.

Responsibilities
Commercial & Contractual Support
  • Support Senior Legal Counsel with reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements, including customer and vendor contracts, with a focus on oilfield services and equipment supply.
  • Provide pragmatic and timely advice to business stakeholders on contractual and commercial matters.
  • Work with Senior Legal Counsel to identify legal risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Support the development and improvement of standard contract templates, playbooks, and legal processes.
  • Prepare legal risk assessments, executive summaries, and manage approvals in accordance with company policies.
Litigation & Dispute Management
  • Support disputes, litigation, and pre‑litigation claims across the region, working with external counsel where appropriate.
  • Support oversight of litigation budgets and reporting.
Employment & HR Support
  • Advise HR and business leaders on employee relations matters, including disciplinary actions, grievances, investigations, and terminations.
  • Support the management of employee disputes and claims.
Corporate & Governance Responsibilities
  • Support Senior Legal Counsel with the management of entity maintenance for the region, board / shareholder meetings, filings, and records for UK, Dutch, Danish and Norwegian entities.
  • Support cross-border corporate projects, restructurings, and M&A activity as required.
Facility & Real Estate Support
  • Advise on real estate transactions, assist with lease and sub‑lease negotiations, drafting, and facility-related matters in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Support site-level compliance, permitting, and operational legal issues.
Other Responsibilities
  • Support with the delivery of legal training to commercial, HR, and operations teams on relevant legal topics.
  • Prepare periodic reports for senior legal and business leadership in wider organisation.
  • Contribute to the development of the global legal function by sharing best practices and collaborating with international colleagues.
Qualifications
  • Qualified lawyer admitted to practice law in Scotland and / or England and Wales.
  • 2-5 years of post‑qualification experience in a reputable law firm and / or in‑house legal department, with substantial exposure to commercial contracts, disputes, and corporate matters.
  • Oilfield services, energy, or industrial sector experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate legal concepts into practical business advice.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to manage upwards and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset, with proven success working across functions, regions, and cultures.
