Job description
The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a talented Legal Counsel to join us on the exciting and rewarding path we are taking here at Castle Trust Bank. We pride ourselves in being a fintech challenger bank, providing specialist property mortgages, retail finance lending and savings accounts to a variety of customers.

As a Legal Counsel, you will form part of a small legal team and operate in a generalist capacity, working across the various business lines within the Bank. You will have the opportunity to provide legal advice in relation to matters in Residential Property, Consumer Credit/Finance and Savings. Should any matters of litigation arise, you will play an important and key role in supporting the business and mitigate risk. Another focus of this role will be to review, negotiate and create contracts with suppliers and other external counterparties, in addition to supporting the General Counsel in ensuring that the Bank’s standard form documentation is properly maintained.

The role will be on a hybrid working arrangement, 3 days a week from our London office and the rest of the week from home. This is a fixed-term contract opportunity covering a period of maternity leave for up to 14 months.

What we are looking for in you…

What is important to us is that you are a qualified solicitor (with a UK practising certificate) with demonstrable post-qualification experience. It would be preferred if you have previous experience operating in-house, ideally within banking (however not essential, other regulated financial institutions will be considered). It is important that you have operated in either real estate finance or consumer finance to allow you to hit the ground running.

What is equally important to us

What is equally important to us is that you have strong planning and organisational skills, with sound technical legal skills and knowledge and a commercial mindset. You will be a natural problem solver with the ability to innovate whilst providing exceptional customer service to your stakeholders at all times.

What’s in it for you…

As well as a competitive salary, we offer a generous contributory pension scheme through Hargreaves Lansdown, life assurance, 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays on top). Wellbeing is also high on our agenda, and we offer a number of private medical options. In addition, all colleagues have free access to TELUS Health EAP to support their health and wellbeing. We also offer free eye test vouchers and discounted gym membership, and if that’s not enough, we also offer season ticket travel loans.
