Overview

Lead Mechanical Engineer | £46,000-£48,000 | London-Based | Higher Education Environment


Are you a skilled mechanical engineer ready to take the lead on a high-profile site? We're looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team, delivering top-tier planned and reactive maintenance services within a prestigious university environment.


Responsibilities


  • Lead the delivery of mechanical PPM and minor works across the site.

  • Ensure compliance with AWSL safety rules, policies, and permit systems.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to the team and client.

  • Maintain and update the Maximo CAFM system via tablet.

  • Liaise with subcontractors, supervisors, and account support to ensure high-quality service.

  • Monitor performance and report to the Area Manager.

  • Ensure safe working practices, including LOTO procedures and risk assessments.

  • Support quoting processes for minor works and manage materials/resources efficiently.

  • Participate in the on-call rota and manage contractor escorts and permits.


Qualifications & Training


  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Building Services (essential)

  • Legionella (L8) trained and competent

  • Apprentice-trained in M&E discipline (desirable)

  • City & Guilds 18th Edition (desirable)

  • Base knowledge of gas and FGAS systems (desirable)


Skills & Experience


  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role across multi-site environments

  • Strong understanding of HVAC, BMS, and mechanical systems

  • Experience using CAFM systems (e.g. Maximo)

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to manage priorities and deliver under pressure

  • Knowledge of risk assessments, permits, and safety procedures
