Clinical Pharmacist – Ipswich Hospital, East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust

A vacancy at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Are you an experienced Clinical Pharmacist looking for a career change or your next challenge in an acute hospital trust?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Pharmacist to join our modern purpose‑built facilities and help the department deliver on its proactive Education and Training agenda.

You will be based at Ipswich Hospital, separating time to provide clinical pharmacy activity at ward level and all required Education and Training aspects of the job description. Cross‑site collaboration with Colchester pharmacy colleagues is essential to ensure consistency of practice and a uniform approach to the development of our staff.

Our friendly pharmacy team are dedicated to nurturing, mentoring and developing staff to reach their full potential. Activities include direct one‑to‑one training, pharmacy forums, clinical huddles and other educational activity, as well as support for personal development plans, SMART objective setting and study opportunities.

ESNEFT has recently completed a full Trust‑wide implementation of the Epic electronic patient record, which includes electronic prescribing and administration and a pharmacy stock control system replacement, alongside fully automated dispensaries. We host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit, including a new aseptic facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on all education and training activities at the Ipswich site and other relevant cross‑site pharmacy training initiatives within ESNEFT.
  • Develop, deliver and maintain locally based education and training schemes for all grades of pharmacist and clinical pharmacy technician staff.
  • Lead ongoing mentoring and coaching of junior pharmacists and student pharmacists throughout their Clinical Diploma and Foundation Trainee studies.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost‑effective use of medicines at ward level, minimising drug wastage.
  • Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service at ward level in line with pharmacy Key Performance Indicators and agreed clinical standards.
