A leading social justice law firm in Manchester is looking for a Cost Administrator. You will support the National Costs Team in recovering legal costs, preparing court documents, and maintaining accurate financial records. Ideal candidates should have strong advanced Excel skills and attention to detail. This role offers comprehensive training, ensuring a proactive approach to each task, along with additional benefits including a contributory pension scheme and healthcare cash plan.
As a Cost Administrator, you will play a pivotal role in our National Costs Team, working alongside a team of four dedicated team members who together support the National Costs Team. You will work closely with all members of the Costs team to assist with the proactive recovery of legal costs, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with policies and procedures.
As part of our interview process, candidates will be required to complete a 30 minute Excel test, showcasing their advanced Excel knowledge. Additionally, you will have a face‑to‑face interview with our National Cost Team Manager and Costs Team Supervisor, who will discuss your qualifications, experience, and fit for our team.
You will play a key role in the team’s cash collection procedures. In addition, you will prepare court documents and provide support with fixed costs dispute cases. A comprehensive training plan will be in place to help you develop. The role also involves assisting with enforcement proceedings to recover clients’ damages and costs, as well as maintaining financial records and data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within a legal or accounting department, is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided. You should also have proficiency in advanced Excel functions, demonstrating the ability to work with complex data effectively.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills are essential for success in this role. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are equally important, as is a proactive and collaborative mindset to work effectively within the team and across departments.

Over the last 100 years, we have consistently won the cases that have advanced the law for working people, but, as long as there are employers who put profit before the safety and rights of their workforce, there is always more to do. We continue to expose injustice, holding those responsible to account and campaigning for positive change.
We want to hear from anyone who is keen to progress a legal career with a firm that won’t let up in its quest for fairness.
