Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in Waterlooville seeks a Junior Drafter to provide accurate 2D drawings and 3D models. You will work with senior staff to create compliant documentation using CAD software. The ideal candidate has experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks, attention to detail, and is a team player. This is a 3-month contract role with a typical work week of 37.5 hours.

Qualifications

Overview

Junior Drafter — Waterlooville. 37.5 hours per week: 7.30am - 4.00pm Monday to Thursday; 7.30am - 1.00pm Friday. 3-month contract: September 25 – December 25.

General Summary Of Role

Provide accurate 2D drawings and 3D models that enable efficient manufacture, installation and service delivery. Work under the guidance of senior technical staff to translate mark-ups, sketches and specifications into clear, compliant documentation.

Core Responsibilities
  • Prepare and amend technical drawings, blueprints and schematics from specifications, sketches and red-lines.
  • Use CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) to create parts, assemblies and layout drawings, ensuring correct layers, line weights, dimensions and tolerances.
  • Revise and update existing drawings to reflect design changes; maintain revision history and drawing registers.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects and senior drafters to clarify requirements and ensure drawings meet project, company and industry standards.
  • Produce exports (PDF/DXF/STEP as required), basic schedules/BOMs and transmittals for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain organised records and naming conventions in line with document-control practices.
  • Participate in design reviews and team meetings; contribute ideas to improve quality and turnaround.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures; promptly report any security event, concern or perceived weakness.
  • Comply with ISO27001 (information security), ISO9001 (quality) and ISO14001 (environment) controls, policies and procedures.
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks or Revit in 2D + 3D.
  • Ability to read/interpret technical drawings and follow instructions with high attention to detail.
  • Teamwork, communication and time-management skills suited to a professional setting.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with any design software (e.g., SketchUp, AutoCAD); exposure to Revit or SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Awareness of drafting conventions and UK/ISO standards (e.g., dimensioning, tolerances, title blocks, revision control).
  • Experience with file management/PDM practices and Microsoft 365.
Knowledge and Educational Achievements

GCSEs in English and Mathematics (or equivalent) required.
BTEC Level 3 / A-Level in Engineering, Design or related field.
