Job description
Position Overview

We are inviting applications for a 0.6 WTE, band 8A IR/X‑ray Superintendent Radiographer covering both our Chelsea and Sutton sites. The role involves supporting and managing the Sutton general X‑ray service, developing the new IR service in Sutton, and providing cover in IR/X‑ray Chelsea alongside the Chelsea IR/X‑ray Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical lead for all IR and general radiography examinations on site.
  • Perform clinical IR and radiography examinations to the agreed department standard.
  • Prioritise examinations based on clinical urgency.
  • Resolve problems beyond the capabilities of senior radiographers within the department.
  • Co‑ordinate with clinical units regarding research protocols to provide agreed protocols for imaging.
Required Experience and Qualifications
  • Significant postgraduate experience in oncological IR, X‑ray and cross‑sectional imaging.
  • Experience in operational management and training of radiology staff.
  • Experience in providing cover for other Superintendent Radiographers across cross‑sectional imaging services.
  • Awareness of budgetary requirements and staff rotation organisation.
  • Strong commitment to professional development and maintaining high imaging standards.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Operational management and training of radiology staff within the IR and X‑ray service in Sutton, working closely with the Chelsea X‑ray/IR lead.
  • Support and lead delivery of General Radiology and IR services across both sites.
  • Interact with Diagnostic Imaging department Superintendents to ensure delivery of appropriate and reactive Diagnostic Imaging services.
  • Hands‑on clinical work and administrative duties, including patient contact with unconscious, uncooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, distressed, disorientated patients, and those with physical and mental disabilities.
  • Provide clinical leadership and maintain the highest standards of imaging across the service.
