Overview

Homelessness Prevention Officer
Location: Redcar & Cleveland
Rate: £20.37 LTD per hour
Contract: Temporary

We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Homelessness Prevention Officer to join their Housing Service team. This is a key frontline role, working directly with vulnerable households to provide advice, support, and practical solutions to prevent and alleviate homelessness.

Responsibilities
  • Provide timely housing advice and support to households at risk of homelessness.
  • Investigate homelessness applications in line with legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Develop and implement prevention strategies and schemes to reduce homelessness.
  • Liaise with landlords, partner agencies, and voluntary organisations to resolve housing issues.
  • Maintain accurate statistical, financial, and administrative records.
  • Carry out home visits and arrange temporary accommodation when necessary.
  • Support the implementation of the Homelessness Strategy and service objectives.
  • Contribute to service planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
Requirements
  • Experience working within a local authority housing department or similar organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation and prevention methods.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with vulnerable clients.
  • Good IT skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Flexible approach to working, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Experience of mediation or early intervention methods.
  • Delivery of training/awareness sessions for clients and partner agencies.
  • Familiarity with housing databases and case management systems.
