Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – PRU

📍 Location: South East London
💷 Salary: Competitive (Dependent on experience)
🕒 Contract: Full-time (Term-time only)

We are seeking a confident and experienced HLTA to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in South East London, supporting pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and complex educational backgrounds. This is an excellent opportunity for a resilient practitioner who thrives in a structured and supportive alternative provision environment.

The Role
  • Deliver planned lessons and interventions in the absence of the class teacher
  • Support teaching and learning across KS2–KS4 (depending on the setting)
  • Work with small groups and on a 1:1 basis to re-engage pupils in learning
  • Implement and support positive behaviour management and de‑escalation strategies
  • Assist with assessment, progress tracking, and EHCP targets
  • Work closely with teachers, behaviour mentors, and pastoral teams
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • HLTA status or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience working in a PRU, Alternative Provision, or SEMH setting
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection
