Overview

A Vacancy at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join our Stroke team at Aintree University Hospital, Ward 32 Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. You must be highly motivated, innovative and have a passion for delivering outstanding care to our patients and our community. Transforming stroke care is a priority within the NHS Long Term Plan. The merger of services will present a number of development opportunities for staff who are passionate about the care of stroke patients to further their careers in managerial, clinical roles or advanced clinical roles. The Hyper Acute Stroke Unit is a 19 bedded Acute Stroke Ward, providing Acute stroke Support and assessment, rehabilitation and all aspects of inpatient care to patients. There will be an opportunity to rotate and work across the Stroke Assessment centre and Acute Stroke unit (Ward 33) at Aintree. The successful candidate would be joining a supportive and enthusiastic team who are committed to providing high standards of patient care. A full 2 week ward preceptorship will be available to the successful candidate, and support would be offered for future development.

Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of a registered nurse, assist the Ward/Department team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families/carers.
  • The post holder will undertake a range of tasks and duties as delegated by the registered nurse.
  • Participate in all aspects of patient care with particular attention to personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Provide for patients' toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.
  • Support patients in managing incontinence and promotion of continence.
  • Record a patient\'s fluid intake and output using fluid balance charts.
  • Prepare and serve meals, drinks and snacks; assist/feeed patients as necessary.
  • Record a patient's dietary intake as indicated in the patient\'s plan of care.
  • Enable patients to maintain or improve mobility through exercise and mobility appliances.
  • Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the registered nurse in conjunction with the patient\'s plan of care.
  • Carry out movement and handling within safe practice guidelines from mandatory training and the patient\'s manual handling plan.
