Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join our Private Care team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. You will work across both of our private facilities – the Chelsea Wing, a 12-bedded inpatient unit, and the Westminster Wing, which houses five consulting rooms for a range of outpatient specialties.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate individual with experience as a Healthcare Assistant in either inpatient or outpatient settings. Experience in both areas is desirable, though comprehensive training and support will be provided to help you develop the skills to work confidently across both.

As a Band 3 HCA, you will support nursing staff in delivering high standards of clinical and personal care, perform phlebotomy, and assist with minor procedures and chaperoning in the outpatient setting. You will also contribute to a calm, welcoming environment that reflects our commitment to excellence in private healthcare.

The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of the customer care expectations of private patients. Phlebotomy skills are desirable, but training will be provided.

Flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to outstanding patient care are essential.

The role will require working across both inpatient and outpatient areas days and nights to meet service needs.

Patient Care

• Deliver high-quality, person-centred care in line with Trust values and the enhanced service standards expected within Private Care.
• Support patients with personal care, comfort, nutrition, mobility, and emotional wellbeing.
• Monitor and report any changes in patients’ condition to the registered nurse.
• Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
• Assist in the smooth admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Provide excellent customer service, ensuring patients and families receive professional, courteous, and timely support.

Clinical Duties

• Perform phlebotomy independently (training provided if required).
• Assist with minor procedures in the outpatient setting, ensuring appropriate preparation and aftercare.
• Act as a chaperone during consultations and procedures, maintaining professionalism and discretion.
• Prepare and maintain treatment and consultation rooms, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and compliant with infection control and health & safety standards.
• Undertake routine clinical observations, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, recording accurately in patient notes.
• Support with specimen collection and documentation, ensuring correct labelling and timely transfer.
• Assist with the safe handling, movement, and positioning of patients, following manual handling policies.

Teamwork and Communication

• Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to support safe, efficient patient care.
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, relatives, and colleagues, maintaining a positive and professional manner.
• Contribute to handovers and maintain accurate documentation in line with Trust policy.
• Support junior members of staff and assist in maintaining a supportive learning environment.

Professional Development

• Take responsibility for maintaining and developing personal skills and knowledge through training and supervision.
• Participate in annual appraisals and mandatory training programmes.
• Demonstrate initiative in identifying personal learning needs and opportunities for service improvement.
