- The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for leading the HSE team to promote and deliver the group HSE policies and strategies to the site(s).
To be the driver of a safety culture to create a workplace free of risk to health and wellbeing.
Main Duties:
The primary objective is to protect the employees and the environment.
- Evaluate with documented annual reviews of all site equipment, processes, and systems to ensure compliance with government safety regulations, industry, ISO standards, group H&S policies and strategy.
- To assist managers, supervisors & staff to identify & report hazards / near misses in the workplace and to take corrective action or initiate controls to minimise the risk.
- Implement and monitor effective proactive systems such as H&S inspections, Step Back & Take 5 and leadership tours.
- To undertake Internal Health & safety auditing and inspection and take corrective action for any non-conformances identified.
- Ensure all risk assessments are carried out for each machine / process on the QUOR system.
- Ensure that all COSHH assessments are conducted using the SEVRON system.
- To maintain health & safety statutory reports.
- Ensure all 3rd party surveys are schedules as required and that all actions are uploaded onto the site surveys App and tracked to completion.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation, keep the site register up to date and feed back to the appropriate stakeholders where necessary.
- Advise directors, managers, and supervisors in the implementation of practices and procedures to ensure that the site complies with statutory requirements and guidelines, and group standards.
- Liaise with group health & Safety and other senior managers to identify the correct levels of resources and manage the operation within these agreed parameters.
- Ensure site compliance of the company’s ISO & Management Systems.
- Challenge, mentor, and coach staff in all aspects of health & safety performance.
- Challenge current processes and practices, with a view to continual improvement.
- Objectively assess the H&S team’s performance and develop improvement plans by way of succession planning.
- Ensure that department managers are accountable for their area of responsibility through their job description.
- Conduct data analysis on accidents, hazards / near misses & safety observations to identify trends and opportunities to improve.
- Ensure all work equipment that falls within the PUWER regulations are inspected in line with the company PUWER policy and regulations, CURS document issued, PDI completed, and commissioning document undertaken.
- Review and update the training requirements of the department in line with current legislation and changing departmental operations.
- Ensure that all H&S projects are delivered on time and within agreed budgets.
- Respect and honour the sentiment of the Cranswick ethical policies and codes of conduct when interacting with colleagues
- Ensure that all staff have been given the appropriate level of training necessary to carry out their work within legislative and Health and Safety guidelines
- Attend the quarterly group H&S meeting, present information as requested and close out any minutes assigned to your site within the agreed timescales.
- Ensure all group KPI reports are completed on time.

Requirements, Experience and Person Specification:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or working towards
- Familiar with Health, Safety & Environmental Management System accredited to ISO /
- Food Industry experience is desirable but not essential
- You must be a Team player with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Flexible with working hours and duties
- Full UK driving license
- Ideally a background in FMCG
- Lead with behavioral Health & Safety with a view to promote and encourage best practice and cultural changes.
