A local government authority in Lancaster is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to implement a new health and safety strategy across various sites. This role involves leading health and safety management, conducting audits, and offering safety guidance. The Role
Are you a passionate and dedicated safety practitioner with community spirit at your heart? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to work across all Council office sites in the Lancaster and Morecambe district. The post includes the implementation of a new health and safety strategy, management system and review of internal policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work with our various departments. You will be the Council’s lead health and safety competent person, with strategic responsibility for the direction and delivery of health and safety management, in accordance with statutory requirements and the Council’s corporate strategies and delivery plans. You will embed robust and proactive health and safety management culture through the provision of behavioural safety and audit programmes. You will work within a diverse team providing safety leadership and advice to all levels and members of staff. You will oversee a range of proactive and reactive health and safety activities including structured audits, focused health and safety projects, provision of competent advice and guidance and incident response and investigation. You will have great communication skills, be organised, be able to balance the strategic and operational requirements of the role. You will need to be flexible, be able to manage conflicting demands and build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders. This post is permanent. The hours of work for this position are up to 37 per week, working Monday to Friday, however this is flexible for the right candidate. Bank Holiday, evening or weekend working may be required in exceptional circumstances, in line with business needs.
This post is based at Lancaster Town Hall, with hybrid working options considered.
The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.
