Job Title: Health and Safety Advisor

Location: Barking, London (3 days per week on-site)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Mon – Fri (occasional weekend on-call)

Salary: £35,000 - 40,000 per annum

Department: Scheme Delivery Team

Reports To: Contracts Manager

Job Summary

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Health and Safety Officer to protect employees and contractors across our workplace sites. You will ensure IZ Energy meets current safety standards while developing H&S processes within the company, and you will help site teams understand and comply with H&S requirements, including scaffolding regulations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a central register of risk assessments and ensure regular review and updates
  • Investigate and record incidents, accidents, and near-misses, reporting as appropriate
  • Schedule and manage site inspections (internal and external)
  • Review and implement Health and Safety measures in line with company policies and legislation
  • Ensure policies are adhered to across all sites through audits, inspections, and monitoring
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff and subcontractors
  • Deliver in-house training sessions to staff on company safety policies
  • Maintain Health and Safety records and ensure training renewals are up to date
  • Attend H&S meetings and report on issues to management as required
  • Carry out audits, identify non-compliance, and develop action plans
  • Liaise with external agencies as required
  • Be available (on call) for emergencies, including weekends if required
  • Spend at least 3 days per week on-site to monitor H&S compliance and provide visible support
  • Work towards continuous improvement of H&S processes within the company
  • Support the development of site team understanding of H&S, including scaffolding regulations compliance

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH qualification (Essential)
  • CSCS Green Card
  • At least 2 years of UK-based Health & Safety experience within a similar role
  • Experience working in the construction industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to motivate and influence safe behaviors across site teams
  • Good ICT skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Valid UK driving license (Essential)
  • Good knowledge of scaffolding regulations
