A prominent healthcare service in the United Kingdom is seeking a leader for its Radiation Protection Service. The role involves managing and developing radiation protection services, strategic planning, and overseeing a dedicated team. Candidates should possess a BSc in physical science and experience in relevant statutory roles. This position offers the opportunity to make significant contributions to public health across Wales.
The Radiation Protection Service at Velindre Cancer Centre (aka RPS Cardiff) delivers a range of ionising radiation protection services to a customer base located primarily in South East Wales. This includes the Aneurin Bevan, Cardiff & Vale, Cwm Taff and Powys Health Boards, Public Health Wales at all of its sites across Wales using ionising radiation, local universities, the private healthcare sector and Velindre University NHS Trust. Services delivered include the statutory roles of Radiation Protection Adviser (under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017), Medical Physics Expert for diagnostic radiology (under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017) and Radioactive Waste Adviser (under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016). Services are provided by an integrated team of clinical scientists, clinical technologists and administrative staff.
The post holder holds a clear vision for delivery and development of services and provides strategic leadership to and management of the team. The post-holder's major duties comprise management of the radiation protection service, development of services to the customer base in response to changes in the legislative environment and developments in the fields of diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy. The post holder acts as budget holder for the Radiation Protection Service. The post-holder will act in at least two of the statutory roles noted above. He/she also initiates research and development and takes a leading role in the teaching and training of staff and students.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
