Job description
Opportunity

A great opportunity has arisen for any midwife who wishes to be part of a credible, dedicated High Dependency Team at Queen Charlotte's Hospital. The unit works within the delivery suite and provides care for women at Level 1, 2 and 3, often carrying out invasive monitoring and providing respiratory support via Optiflo and CPAP.

Responsibilities
  • Work in partnership with women/birthing people, plan and implement individualized midwifery‑led care packages and continually assess, analyse and determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Assist in diagnosing, coordinating and managing a woman's care in collaboration with obstetricians, ensuring that women/birthing people remain at the center of all decision‑making, promoting informed choice and respecting their preferences, dignity and cultural values.
  • Use specialist expert knowledge, experience and practice to continually update and develop advanced midwifery practices and skills, perform accurate midwifery assessments and procedures, and interpret enhanced maternal and fetal observations.
  • Apply comprehensive physiological assessment knowledge, understanding physiological changes in pregnancy and their effect on disease processes.
  • Interpret blood results and ABGs, escalating when necessary and undertake basic cardiac and invasive monitoring and interpretation.
Qualifications & Experience

Midwives must have enthusiasm and an interest in this area of midwifery, with experience caring for sick obstetric women or critically ill adult patients. They should be willing to undertake further study where applicable and be flexible with their rota.
