Main duties of the job

The main duties of a healthcare assistant (HCA) in a gynaecology outpatient department typically include:

Patient Support: Welcoming patients, helping them feel comfortable, and preparing them for examinations or procedures.

Chaperoning: Acting as a chaperone during intimate examinations to support patient dignity and safety.

Clinical Assistance: Assisting nurses and doctors during procedures (e.g. colposcopies, biopsies), preparing equipment, and maintaining cleanliness.

Administrative Tasks: Managing patient notes, updating records, and helping with clinic flow.

Infection Control: Cleaning and preparing rooms between patients, ensuring all infection prevention protocols are followed.

Stock Management: Checking and restocking supplies and equipment.

These responsibilities support the smooth and safe running of the clinic while ensuring high-quality patient care.

Experience
  • 2 years minimum experience within Outpatient setting
  • Currently practicing or has practised within Gynaecology outpatients, for a minimum of 6 months, over the last 12-month period.
