Overview

SLR's well established water team offers expert services across hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources, geochemistry and flood risk for sectors including the built environment, energy, industry and mining and minerals. We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Graduate or Project Hydrologist in our Bristol or Bradford on Avon office in September / October 2025. Working under the mentorship of our industry leading professionals, you will have a great opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within SLR's structured career framework and biannual self-nominating promotion rounds. With client instructions across the UK and abroad, this role provides experience across a broad range of projects in different geographic areas.

The role

You will have the opportunity to build on your degree/masters knowledge or prior placement/commercial experience. With support from senior colleagues, you will be involved in a wide range of tasks including:

  • Assisting with the completion of hydrological assessments involving calculations, modelling and reporting.
  • Undertaking risk assessments relating to flood risk, water shortages and pollution.
  • Working as part of a team to develop technical solutions to significant risks.
  • Contributing to the outline design of sustainable drainage (SuDS) systems including network modelling using Causeway Flow software.
  • Undertaking routine monitoring of groundwater levels, surface water flows and surface water and groundwater quality.
  • Contributing to the preparation of reports such as Flood Risk Assessments, Surface Water Drainage Strategies and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) water chapters.

The nature of the role and the sites worked on may involve occasional site work away from home for short periods.

About you

If you are interested in applying and you have a full UK driving licence we would love to hear from you. To be successful, you would typically demonstrate the following:

  • A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification focusing on at least one of hydrology, civil engineering, earth sciences or a similar field.
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office; and experience with modelling software (ArcGIS, QGIS, Causeway Flow, GoldSim) is advantageous.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD software.
  • The drive and desire to build a successful career in this field.
  • A willingness to learn, problem solve and work independently when required.
  • Good numeracy, written and verbal communication, and timekeeping abilities.
