Overview

We are hiring for a Geotechnical Engineer in St. Austell. The role involves assessing ground conditions, managing risks, and designing foundations for projects including buildings, roads, and tunnels.

Core Responsibilities
  • Site Assessment & Investigation: study geological maps and aerial photographs to understand subsurface features; plan and supervise field investigations including drilling and collecting soil, rock, and groundwater samples; analyse collected samples and test results to determine ground stress-bearing capability, stability, and potential geological hazards.
  • Construction Oversight: monitor ground conditions during and after construction to ensure long-term stability and safety; resolve technical issues that arise during the construction process.
Key Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical Expertise: strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geology.
  • Software Proficiency: skill in geotechnical software for data analysis and modelling.
  • Data Analysis: ability to interpret complex data from field tests and laboratory analyses.
  • Problem-Solving: excellent analytical skills to identify challenges and develop effective solutions.
  • Communication: strong written and oral communication skills to present findings and collaborate with teams.
  • Project Management: ability to manage project packages from instruction to completion and work within budgets.
Required Qualifications & Certifications
  • HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • CSCS card (Engineering or Professional level preferred)
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable but not essential)
  • First Aid at Work (desirable)
  • AutoCAD proficiency
  • Full UK Driving Licence and own vehicle
