The Role

We are seeking an experienced Geospatial Data Manager to join our growing team. This role is responsible for the architecture, implementation, and day-to-day management of geospatial data systems, ensuring data processes meet high standards of quality and integrity. You will work closely with scientific and technical teams across the data lifecycle, including cataloging, quality assurance, access management, and data availability for internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Architecture and Management: Understand requirements to implement and manage a robust geospatial data system.
  • Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures.
  • Data Cataloging and Metadata Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive data catalog and metadata standards for geospatial data.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Ensure data integrity with quality checks and review processes before downstream use.
  • Version Control: Maintain rigorous version control for all data assets.
  • Data Access and Availability: Manage data access for internal and external stakeholders, coordinating with tech and API teams for seamless transfer.
  • Data Lifecycle Management: Oversee archival, retention, and deletion policies.
Skills and Experience

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a data management or similar role.
  • Strong background in data governance and policy adherence.
  • Experience with metadata management and standards.
  • Experience in data quality assurance.
  • Experience in data version control.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Solid understanding of data lifecycle management principles.

Preferred

  • Experience with geospatial data and software.
  • Experience designing, implementing, transitioning and maintaining data management systems.
  • Experience with open source tools and software.
  • Experience with scripting languages for data processing and management.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage options (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of external standards.
  • Proficiency with databasing and querying tools.
  • Experience delivering training on using data management systems.
