GCIL.AR/LB/1.25 Personal Assistant (PA)

Location: South side area of Glasgow G44

Hours: 10 hours per week (including some weekends every 2nd Saturday 1:30pm-4:30pm flexible)

Pay Rate: £13.60 per hour

About the Role

We are looking for a gentle, patient and warm-hearted Personal Assistant to support Adam, a loving and sensitive young boy with Down syndrome and autism. Adam communicates in both spoken English and British Sign Language (BSL), and because both of his parents are Deaf, experience in BSL is essential to ensure communication feels natural, respectful and comfortable for everyone. Adam thrives when the people around him take their time, follow his pace and show genuine kindness, and it is very important to both him and his parents that he feels safe, understood and listened to.

About Adam

Adam is a friendly, sensitive boy who enjoys gentle, meaningful connection. He loves swimming and spending time outdoors, so a PA who also enjoys these activities will be a great match. He feels most secure around people who are patient, caring and calm, and who value his feelings and communication style. Adam follows a halal diet, so cultural awareness is appreciated.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicating with Adam and his parents using British Sign Language (BSL)
  • Supporting Adam with play, gentle activities and outdoor time
  • Accompanying Adam to swimming and other outings
  • Assisting with daily routines and promoting a sense of security and understanding
  • Working in partnership with Adam’s parents to support his wellbeing
  • Providing a caring, dependable and respectful presence
Requirements
  • Essential: Experience in British Sign Language (BSL)
  • Warm, patient, caring and empathetic nature
  • Reliable and consistent, with good communication skills
  • Comfortable supporting a child with Down syndrome and autism
  • Enjoys swimming and outdoor activities
  • Culturally aware and respectful (Adam follows a halal diet)
  • Childcare experience is helpful but not essential
