Job summary

A leading educational organization in Belfast is seeking a Freelance Essential Skills Literacy Tutor. In this role, you will deliver 12 hours of classroom teaching per week and engage young learners in essential literacy skills necessary for their future success. You will help build student confidence and deliver accredited qualifications. This position offers a pay rate of up to £25 per hour and the contract is freelance, with opportunities for structured development.

The role

This is a teaching role - but with purpose. As a Freelance Essential Skills Literacy Tutor, you'll help young people achieve English qualifications that unlock opportunities. From communication to confidence, your lessons will give learners the skills they need to thrive.

In this role you will deliver 12 hours of classroom teaching with 3 hours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday plus an additional paid 8 hours for lesson planning, marking etc at times that suit you.

You’ll:
  • Plan and deliver engaging Literacy lessons aligned to the Essential Skills curriculum.
  • Deliver accredited qualifications and support learners through assessment.
  • Build learner confidence in communication, reading and writing.
  • Keep accurate records, safeguarding and compliance standards.
  • Support progression into work, training or education.
The person
  • Do you have GCSE (A‑C) or equivalent in English (or Level 2 Essential Skills Communication)?
  • Do you have a recognised teaching qualification in line with ES Circular 01/12?
  • Have you delivered Essential Skills Literacy / Communication before?
  • Are you passionate about building confidence in everyday English?
