Job description

Manpower is currently seeking an interim Formulation Scientist to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple, and become an integral part of their fast‑paced FMCG environment.

The position is based at our client’s scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral, easily accessible by train and car. This is a full‑time temporary role to run for 3 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation for this role is competitive, paying between £31,205 and £33,000 per annum, pro‑rata, depending upon experience.

Due to the urgency of the role, we can only accept applications with a notice period of no longer than one week.

Purpose

Product formulation scientist to develop laundry detergent liquid formulations for Unilever’s global laundry brands.

Background

This role is part of the Global Design Centre for Laundry liquids. You will be part of a team responsible for delivering Unilever’s laundry detergent products for an array of exciting global brands like Dirt is Good and Surf. We are looking for motivated, inquisitive, digitally‑minded and passionate people to join us in bringing through innovative new technologies to drive the future of the laundry and clothes care business.

Main Accountabilities
  • Support many aspects of the product development cycle, with the opportunity to work on both longer‑term technology opportunities as well as fast‑paced brand‑facing innovation projects.
  • Plan and execute your own day‑to‑day experimental work schedule, and ensure compliance with COSHH and GLP disciplines.
  • Work with Unilever cross‑functional teams and external partners to identify and screen new technologies.
  • Conduct product characterisation studies including rheology, physical/sensory evaluations and storage stability tests where required.
  • Generate and manage simultaneous sets of complex data, frequently presenting outputs and looking for opportunities to expand our digital mindset & capabilities.
All About You
  • A degree (or equivalent) in Science or Engineering discipline. Some chemistry background would be great; curiosity in the latest innovation and technology is essential.
  • Practical laboratory formulating experience, data interpretation and experimental design.
  • Strong teamwork & planning.
  • Highly‑motivated with resourceful problem‑solving skills/practical creativity.
  • Proactive problem solver with strong analytical skills and an ability to interpret data to pull out key insights.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with an ability to bring technologies and innovations to life in a clear and engaging way.
